The Time to Act is Past Due

I know I sound like a broken record, and I’m sorry about that (but not that sorry). If it isn’t clear by now that climate change is real and happening now, I don’t know what more I can do to convince you of its impact. To those of you who do understand the severity of its impact, I’m speaking to you directly:

Call your congressman/representative immediately.

President Trump has recently hinted that he will begin to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Deal, which could have catastrophic impacts on the global climate given that the U.S. is one of the largest greenhouse gas contributors, second only to China. If the U.S. is removed from the Paris Climate Deal, the results could be catastrophic. The goal has always been to levee global temperature rise at 2 degrees Celsius (3.7 degrees Fahrenheit), which would be next to impossible without the U.S. in agreement with the resolution. The climate has already risen by approximately one degree Celsius. If removed from the climate agreement, the U.S. is expected to contribute as much as 0.1 to 0.2 degrees Celsius. As it stands, we are currently on track to surpass the 2 degree C cap, but the issue at hand is the rate. There will be a higher likelihood of adaptation if we can slow the rate.(Washington Post). The U.S. leaving the Paris Agreement would be like opening the taps into an already overflowing tub.

We each have to do everything possible to prevent the U.S. from leaving the Paris agreement. At the very least, take the 5 minutes to call your congressmen. DO NOT EMAIL OR SEND LETTERS–THEY CAN BE IGNORED. They can’t ignore your phone call.
